Question For Christians Only, Preferably A Preacher If Possible.?
Rafaela-Sauter, 2006-08-27 03:37:19
I work in a casino. I deal blackjack and other games. I have been a christian since I was 7 about 25 years ago. I've been working in this business for 10 years. This is a very hostile working environment (especially for Christians). We see all kinds of sinful acts. My question's are: Is gambling a sin? Do you think God would rather me not work there? Do you think God has a purpose for me working there (like maybe witnessing to people)?I really dislike the job and want to "quit" but I don't know if I would be letting God down or making him proud by quitting. I have prayed on this subject many times. I'm also scared about leaving a good paying job without having any other degrees. I would most definetly be taking a cut in pay if I were to quit, but I know if it's the right thing to do, God will provide. Thanks for your answers.

- The practice of gambling is not mentioned in the Bible and so we can't call something a sin that God has not called a sin.
- God uses people in all walks of life and it's possible, although quite rare, for Him to use a person in a place like a casino.
- The reason for this is because someone who is working in a gambling establishment is supporting a practice that while it may not be sinful in and of itself often leads to the destruction of people's lives who can't control themselves and who don't practice gambling as a form of amusement and mild entertainment.
- It's similar to asking if God can use a person who works in the liquor industry.
- Jesus drank wine with his disciples at the last supper so we know that the act of having a glass of wine is not a sin.
- But alcohol ruins many lives in this country and so a person who professes to be a follower of Christ has to prayerfully ask them self if the work that they are engaged in is truly Christ honoring or not.
- While you are at the casino are you telling people about Jesus and exhorting them not to love money?
- When someone loses their shirt do you come alongside them and tell them about the eternal riches found in God's Kingdom?
- Are you inviting your co-workers to come to church and Bible study with you?
- Do you pray for the people at work and for people you come into contact with at the casino?
- I'm not saying that you have to be doing every one of these things.
- I'm just asking you to examine your activities from a Biblical perspective and to ask your self if the reason you are working there has to do with wanting to honor God in the position in which you find your self or if it has to do more with being comfortable in a job that meets your financial needs and lack of trust that God would provide for those needs in a different area of employment.
- Let the Holy Spirit guide you while you pray about this and trust that God will meet your needs as you honor Him in the decision making process.
- "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
- In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
- Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
- It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
- Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
- Proverbs 3:5-10
- "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
- And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
- And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
- Romans 8:26-28
- Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
- 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus....But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
- Philippians 4:19

"all the [old testament] prophets testify about him [jesus] that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." (acts 10:43) "in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of god's grace." (ephesians 1:7)after someone trusts in christ for the forgiveness of their sins, a new life begins -- "if anyone is in christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (2cor. 5:17) the person becomes a follower of christ. as a follower of christ, a person relies upon jesus in other areas of their life, not just for forgiveness of sin. for example, jesus said that he is the teacher (john 13:13-14). he told his disciples that he would send the holy spirit to them, and that the holy spirit would teach them all things (john 14:26) and guide them into all truth (john 16:13). god teaches a person his ways and his truth the best online gambling casino directory page rank 7 6. in terms of our values and our behavior, he cleans out stuff in our thinking that's not right, and shows us from his perspective what is correct. this is another way in which god loves us. he is the one who knows all truth, and he wants us to build our lives on his truth. jesus said... "everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." (matthew 7:24-25) "if you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." australian 1c and 2c and 5c casino slots. (john 8:31-32) "come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and i will give you rest. take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for i am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (matthew 11:28-29) the most important part of following christ is to learn from him. by relying on christ as our teacher, he guides us into living a new life that is according to his will and is according to truth. he shows us how to live, and will even guide us in how to pray. when we learn what he wants from us, then we rely on his strength and power (the holy spirit) to do those things. following christ is all about relying upon him. he told his disciples, "i am the vine; you are the branches. if a man remains in me and i in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (john 15:5) is online casino gambling legal in texas.

But if a man esteems a thing to be unclean, then to him it is unclean."I honestly don't think of gambling as being an unclean thing. The reason some religious people esteem it to be unclean is because some people abuse it and put their families' financial future at risk. This is the same reason some religious people have a case against alcohol. But I have to stand with St. Paul. There's nothing unclean about drinking or gambling. What's at issue is the abuse -- the excess -- if you will. And if abuse to excess is the real issue (and I believe it is) then anything can be sinful (food, sex, money) anything at all. So in that sense, being a blackjack dealer is no different to being a waiter in a restaurant. Both food and blackjack can be abused. But is there anything wrong in offering food or legal entertainment? I don't think so.I call myself a Christian, but I also enjoy going to Vegas and consider it a great treat. If anyone wishes to take issue with that, then I quote the old saying "honi soit qui mal y pense." (evil to him whom evil thinks). That's what I think. But here's the deal -- it's not what I think that counts -- it's what you think. Objectively, I see nothing wrong; but if subjectively you do, you have to act on that and do what you think best.Hope this answer helps.

- Please do not let that comment bring concemnation to you in any way.
- And to say will I just gamble for fun.
- If you are a Christian I want to encourage you to .
- And also it does not help people to be good stewards with what God has given them.
- There are other ways to be rich.
- You are on the right track, I would pray for the peole who are there gambling, that God would show them a better way.
- He will make me rich, and being rich is not always in money.
- If I want God's blessings I do not have to play the lotto.
- I could see if you went to the casino to witness to people about how gambling is not good for them, But to work in that field, I don't think you are witnessing to them.
- Well its not so much as oh its a sin, as it could be an addiction for some, which in turn tears apart families and lives.
- You can not let God down.
- Now where in the bible does it say that I should gamble to for my provsion.
- I don't think God wants that for people.
- I sure hope that makes sense.
- God does love you, and if you are obedient to him, he will bless you.

Anything can be taken to the extreme and become a sin, but some things the Bible is clear on and some things we have to rely on the leadership of the Holy Spirit for. I have to agree with the other answer. No one can tell you how the Holy Spirit is leading you. Jesus was accused by the Pharisees of "eating and drinking with publicans and sinners," in other words, being in environments that were sinful. I'd say a lot of it depends on where you are spiritually. Are you strong enough do be an influence on an ungodly atmosphere, or will that environment be an influence on you? Only you and the Holy Spirit can answer that. No one else could, or more importantly, should. We, as Christians spend way too much time trying to do the Holy Spirit's job of convicting others of sin. Ask Him. He knows better than anyone else.

I do see that for many people gambling is a terrific temptation that leads to sin. Should you work there? I can't answer for sure, but I'm reminded of Lot's poor choice to live too near the sinful people of Sodom. The Bible says that his "righteous soul was vexed." He made the wrong choice and he suffered because of it.In an important decision like this I think it's imperative that you get the counsel of your church. If you're not actively participating in a church, and if the reason why you're not is because of your work schedule -- then you've already got your answer.Sounds like your being convicted and only u know the answer to that australian 1c and 2c and 5c casino slots.
