What Are Some Ways We Can Stop Children From Playing Violent Video Games?

Linnie-Thomlinson, 2006-12-20 16:14:20
What are some ways we can stop children from playing violent video games? More and more children are playing violent video games and they are becoming more aggresive. How can we stop them from playing such violent content? I myself propose a new rating system where ratings become based on age not content which is similar to the MPAA ratings for movies.OK, I am a teen too and I like violent video games. But I do not want my school to be like Columbine and have these teens who have played so many violent video games to lose grip on reality and start thinking video games are real. Parents however, are the best way to stop teens from playing violent video games but the problem is they do not. Basically, it is only the government who can make a law to stop teens from playing violent video games. Parents should stop teens but many do not so maybe a law should be created. What should this law be? Maybe a law where parents must monitor their children's take of vilent video games. What do you think? What do you think if:A new law should be created requiring all schools across the nation to have an annual workshop that parents must attend each year. This seminar should have doctors, psychologists, and police officers discuss the dangerous effects of violent video games on children. Parents should be able to come to realize that they need to say no to violence inside their homes.

  • The rating system just informs kids which video games are the ones they're not supposed to have, which makes them try to get them even more.
  • I disagree with your blanket statement that children's aggression is due to video games.
  • But ignoring that, it is ultimately the responsibility of parents to raise their kids with proper morals and behaviour.
  • This is where the greatest part of the problem begins and ends.
  • Edit: You can make all of the laws you want to.
  • It's apparent you are a teen because you don't understand the problems with making laws that are difficult to enforce and place an extra and unnecessary burden on the police force.
  • Parents need to parent their kids.
  • This is where it all begins.
  • Children are a responsibility and you shouldn't have them if you're going to shirk your responsibility.
  • Society isn't supposed to be there to do your job for you.

Some kids are more advanced than other kids, so the age rating might not apply to all games. I know the violence is rising on these games. Most parents are not video smart and take their word for what's on the game, Educate the parents to exactly what is in the game the kid wants. I think maybe the parents should be more aware what they buy for their children. And violence is violence, not matter what age the kid is. Some ways to prevent kids from playing violent video games are having more alternatives to the violence.

  • Don't outlaw them with no reason.
  • Learn to discuss and communicate with your children why you think the games are bad or dangerous world poker tour free online video games.
  • Even better than merely "discussing" is to set them on an assignment to tell YOU the bad *and* good about the games.
  • Nothing is more amazing than a child thinking for themselves, figuring out good and bad without being told "because I said so."

  • The answer to this question is very easy!!!
  • Parents need to become parents, there would not be a problem with children playing these games if parents monitored what their children were doing, also parents need to be an active participant in their children's lives!!!
  • We need to take this country back and put one parent back in the home!!Don't do that.
  • What u should do is remember that kids know what is real and what is not.
  • Seeing their parents agruing everyday, not being stuck in the underbelly of Mars with a shotgun against soul eating demons will provoke them to believe that is the only way to solve problems.
  • Have u seen these games, for a child to beat up another child because of what another game character blew his guts on the street is funny.
  • Parents will believe anything, trust me, I once said the devil made me do it and my mom believed it.
  • Stop looking for an excuse and do something.
  • Maybe ur child fights cause that the only time mom and dad will stop ignoring them, even if the child is getting his ass beat.
  • Have u done case studies of children where they live and where they pick up violent behavoir.
  • If u did u might solve something.
  • What stop and adult for doing the same thing?
  • He knows better, when did he learn better?
  • When he was taught, if ur never thought, u never know?
  • Video games.....if they could do so much, shouldn't they be teaching classes or something.

  • Rating games and movies does nothing.
  • Do you have kids?
  • If you don't then volunteer at a local club to take kids hiking, swimming, playing sports, fishing, frisbee...etc..etc...
  • Kids will not get off the games unti they have something better to do.

  • Not buy them for them, for starters.
  • Then monitor what they do play - be aware of whats at their friends' houses and what kinds of parents their friends have...

  • Most people don't want to do that because its too difficult, or requires too much energy.
  • Its easier just to hand them whatever they want, pat them on the head and send them off to the tv becuase at least they're out of your face for a few minutes world poker tour free online video games casino play for fun slots sim city.

Make it like, once a week they can play, and let the child choose that day. Do not let the child play too much of it. Make the child get used to NOT playing it.Firstly, your assumption that violent video games make children more violent is completely unjust. In fact, since the original Playstation came out there has been a steady decline in the number of violent crimes by teenages. Do not believe the hype that Jack Thompson and Hillary Clinton are spreading! Columbine and other school shootings, as well as other shootings have been blamed on video games when the real problem was the PARENTS.If you have children and dont want them playing violent games, thats fine, dont let them. They're your children, they live under your roof. But please, dont try and tell all children in this country what they can and can't do. Its not your job.The rating system put in place by the ESRB is fine, and mimics the MPAA's rating system. E for Everyone (like a G rating), T for Teen (like a PG or PG-13 rating), M for Mature (like an R rating).Remember that movies are not ristricted based upon age unless they are NC-17 (aka X) rated (at that point they are considered pornography and handled differently due to obsenity laws). There is no law that says a 15 year old cannot see a rated R movie, its just that most theaters enforce that rule on themselves (okay, fine, MPAA lobbies them to do it, but its still not illegal)

The laws you mention would be almost impossible to enforce, as the video games are played in the home, and law enforcement can only enter the home when there is either; a) Reasonable suspicion, which has to be substantiated in court, or b) A search warrant, which requires a substantal amount of evidence to attain. As for workshops and seminars, the addage, "You can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink", would best apply. You can provide knowledge, but it is up to the recipient of the knowledge to apply said knowledge diligently. While your quest for a solution to this problem is a valiant one, the bottom line here is that the parents need to be diligent enough in their their roles as parents to ensure their children are not playing the games.Rate all video games mature and only adults are able to buy them
